Google Business Profile suspended: how to get reinstated

A suspended Google Business Profile is reinstated through Google's appeals tool, after the violation is fixed and proof of the business is filed. Correct the name, address or category problem first. Then file 1 appeal with a business license, registration or utility bill that matches the profile. Google decides appeals in up to 5 business days. Do not create a new profile during the appeal.

What to do if my Google Business Profile is suspended?

Do not create a new profile. Find the guideline the profile breaks, fix it, then file 1 appeal in Google’s appeals tool with a business license, registration, tax certificate or utility bill whose name and address match the profile.

The 4 restriction types above each carry their own appeal path, so the first task is identifying which one applies before opening any appeal form. A profile suspension and an account restriction look similar to the owner but are fixed in a different order: an account restriction blocks every profile it manages, so it is appealed first.

A profile in this state still qualifies for a full setup review before the appeal is filed — see Business Profile setup and optimization for the complete listing build once it is reinstated.

How do I reinstate a suspended Google Business Profile?

Reinstate a suspended Google Business Profile in 6 steps: check for an account restriction, identify the broken guideline, fix it, gather matching documents, submit 1 appeal in the appeals tool, and wait up to 5 business days for Google's decision.

The 6-step reinstatement procedure

Step 1: Check whether the profile or the Google Account is restricted

Open the profile first. A "Suspended" or "Disabled" notice on the profile itself is a profile-level action. A message blocking every listing the account manages, or an inability to create or claim any profile, is an account restriction, appealed separately from your Google Account's My accounts page.

Step 2: Find the guideline the profile breaks

Compare the profile's name, address, category, service area and review history against Google's guidelines for representing a business on Google. The cause table below lists the 7 most common breaks.

Step 3: Fix the violation before you appeal

Correct the name, address, category or review problem the profile broke. An appeal filed against an unchanged profile returns the same decision, because the reviewer checks the current state of the listing, not the intent behind the appeal.

Step 4: Gather documents that match the profile

  • Business registration
  • Business license
  • Tax certificate
  • Utility bill (electricity, phone, water, internet or cable)

Every document shows the same business name and address as the profile. Open the evidence form only when all files are ready: it closes after 60 minutes. Keep dated storefront and signage photos on hand as well — Google uses them in video verification and duplicate appeals, separate from this evidence list.

Step 5: Submit 1 appeal in Google's appeals tool

File the appeal through Google's Business Profile appeals tool with the matching documents attached. Submitting a second appeal for the same issue before a decision arrives does not speed up the review.

Step 6: Wait for the decision without a second profile

Google's appeal help page says decisions can take up to 5 business days. After a denial, Google may be able to do an additional review, where you add evidence that was not in the original appeal.

Caution

Do not create a new Google Business Profile for the same business while an appeal is under review. Google's appeal instructions say this directly.

Why did my Google Business Profile get suspended?

Google suspends Business Profiles that break its guidelines, most often through extra keywords in the business name, a P.O. box or virtual-office address, a visible address on a service-area business, an ineligible business type, or links to a suspended Google Account.

Guideline broken, an example that breaks it, and the fix. Google states that profiles with a P.O. box address are suspended; for the other rows, Google's guidelines set the rule without saying each break leads to suspension.

What is the difference between a disabled and a suspended Google Business Profile?

A suspended profile broke Google’s policies and is usually hidden from the public, though a soft suspension can leave it visible but unverified. A disabled profile was removed for quality violations, including a business that does not exist at the claimed location.

Both states are reversed through the same appeals tool, and both keep the underlying listing data intact while it is under review. The distinction that matters for the appeal is the evidence: a disabled profile more often needs proof the business exists and operates at the address than proof of a corrected guideline.

A suspended or disabled profile is also the reason a business disappears from the map pack entirely — for why a business stops showing on Google Maps, including causes besides suspension, see that guide.

How long does a Google Business Profile suspension last?

A Google Business Profile suspension lasts until Google approves an appeal; it does not expire on its own. Google states that appeal reviews and decisions take up to 5 business days, and forbids repeat appeals for the same issue before a decision.

  • Approved
  • Not approved
  • Can't be appealed
  • Eligible for appeal

What happens if my Google Business Profile appeal is denied?

After a denied appeal, Google may be able to do an additional review, where you add evidence the first appeal lacked. Correct any remaining guideline problem first, because an unchanged profile with the same documents returns the same decision.

Once reinstated, what keeps it from happening again?

Why does my Google Business Profile keep getting suspended?

A Google Business Profile keeps getting suspended when the underlying violation survives reinstatement, such as a keyword in the name, a virtual-office address or an account tied to another suspended profile. Each new edit to name, address or category can trigger another review.

  • Keep the name identical to your signage
  • Keep the address staffed, or hide it as a service-area business
  • Keep service areas within about 2 hours' driving
  • Remove managers whose accounts are restricted
  • Ask every customer for reviews, with no rewards

Google Business Profile suspension questions

Can changing my address get my profile suspended?

It can. Google says a recent address change is a likely reason it asks for re-verification. Profiles with a P.O. box address are suspended, and remote mailboxes and virtual offices are not eligible. Move only to a staffed address with permanent signage.

What happens when the Google Account that manages my profile is restricted?

Every profile managed by a restricted Google Account is suspended, and the account cannot create or claim other profiles. Appeal the account restriction first, from your Google Account's My accounts page, then appeal the profile in the Business Profile appeals tool.

What happens to my reviews when my profile is suspended?

A profile Google removes is hidden from the public, so its reviews are hidden with it; a soft suspension can leave the listing visible but unverified. Reinstatement restores the profile. Separate review-policy restrictions, applied for fake engagement, block or unpublish reviews under their own appeal.
