Definition
Ecommerce SEO is search engine optimization for online stores. It makes category pages rank for broad product searches and product pages rank for specific model searches, and it structures the store so Google crawls every product URL without duplicates or wasted filter pages.
A category page, which Shopify calls a collection, lists a group of products such as "men's trail running shoes" and targets the broad search for that group. A product page sells one item and targets the model search, such as a brand name plus a model number. Faceted navigation is the filter and sort menu on a category page; each filter choice creates a new URL, and those URLs repeat the category's content.
Stores with thousands of URLs depend on technical SEO work: crawl control, speed and structured data. Every filter combination on every category page is a separate URL, so crawl control comes before any new copy.
Scope
Ecommerce SEO services include 6 parts: category page optimization, product page optimization, faceted navigation control, product structured data, Google Merchant Center feed checks, and site speed and crawl fixes. Each part targets a different search: broad, specific, shopping or technical.
Titles, H1s, buying guidance and subcategory links for broad searches.
Unique descriptions and titles with brand, model and key attribute.
Filter and sort URLs blocked or canonicalized so crawls reach products.
Product and Offer markup stating price, availability and reviews.
Google Merchant Center is the free account that sends product data to Google Shopping.
Core Web Vitals, redirects and duplicate URLs.
Price
$1,499 a month is the starting price for ecommerce SEO at Kansas City SEO Pros, on the month-to-month Growth plan. A $349 store audit comes first; one-off technical sprints start at $750. Growth covers category pages, product pages, product copy and schema each month.
| Option | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Store audit | $349 one-time | Category, product, feed and technical review; ranked fix list; walkthrough call |
| Ecommerce SEO — Growth plan | from $1,499/mo | Monthly category and product optimization, product copy, schema, feed checks, reporting |
| Technical SEO sprint | from $750 | One-off fixes: speed, redirects, duplicates |
Month-to-month; cancel with 30 days' notice.
The Growth plan covers online stores and multi-location businesses at the same starting price. Single-location service businesses compare our monthly SEO packages instead.
Category pages
Optimize a category page by matching its title and H1 to the broad product search, adding 100–200 words of buying guidance above or below the grid, linking related subcategories, and blocking crawlable filter and sort URLs that duplicate the category.
"Use robots.txt to disallow crawling of faceted navigation URLs. Oftentimes there's no good reason to allow crawling of filtered items…"
Google Search Central, faceted navigation guidance, updated December 18, 2025
Product pages
Do product page SEO in 5 steps: write a unique description, put the brand, model and key attribute in the title, add Product and Offer structured data, show real reviews, and keep one canonical URL per product across every collection that lists it.
A canonical tag names the preferred URL among copies. Shopify creates a second URL for a product reached through a collection, such as /collections/shoes/products/trail-runner, and the canonical tag points that copy back to /products/trail-runner.
Platforms
Neither ranks better by default. Shopify generates canonical tags, sitemaps and theme product schema automatically but keeps fixed /products/ and /collections/ URL paths. WooCommerce runs on WordPress, which allows full URL and server control but relies on an SEO plugin for most settings.
The platform decides where each fix is made, not whether it is possible. On Shopify, the title tag and meta description sit in each product's search engine listing section, and theme code controls the product schema. On WooCommerce, an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math sets titles, canonical tags and schema, and WordPress core has generated /wp-sitemap.xml since version 5.5. A store that moves between the 2 platforms needs a 301 redirect map for every product and category URL.
| Attribute | Shopify | WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| Canonical tags | Automatic | Through an SEO plugin |
| XML sitemap | Automatic at /sitemap.xml | WordPress core sitemap or SEO plugin |
| robots.txt | Automatic; editable with robots.txt.liquid | Editable file or plugin |
| URL paths | Fixed /products/ and /collections/ | Fully editable permalinks |
| Product schema | Included in themes | Plugin or theme |
| Hosting and speed | Managed by Shopify | Chosen host; owner controls server |
The methods above cost money every month. Here is what they return.
Value
Yes. Every ranking category and product page brings shoppers at $0 per click, while shopping ads charge for every visit. Organic rankings keep working after the monthly fee stops, and the same product data feeds Google's free Merchant Center listings.
Google has shown free product listings in the Shopping tab since 2020, fed by the same Merchant Center data as paid Shopping ads. A category page that ranks for a broad search keeps sending visitors after the plan ends, while ad traffic stops the day the budget runs out. The Growth plan runs month-to-month, and 6 months is the recommended run for noticeable results.
Questions
Yes. Kansas City SEO Pros works from Overland Park and serves online stores across the 8 Kansas City metro counties, which hold 5,946 retail establishments (BLS, Q1 2026). Store owners meet the team in person or by video; the work itself is remote, for stores anywhere in the United States.
AI visibility for ecommerce is how often AI assistants name or link a store's products. Shopify now serves default /llms.txt and /agents.md files for every store, and accurate product schema and feeds give assistants clean prices and availability.
Yes, for priority products. The Growth plan includes rewritten descriptions for the store's top-selling or highest-margin products each month, written from the product specifications you supply, never copied from the manufacturer.
